Shirley Jackson
Shirley Jackson was an American writer who wrote mostly about psychological turmoil, isolation, and inequity of fate. After she wrote her short story "The Lottery" she started to become famous. In 1940 she got her BA in english. She was very famous in her time, but now she is being forgotten. Shirley's husband was also a writer.

Billie Holiday had a very brief life, lasting from 1915-1959. She was a jazz singer who chose her name after Billie Dove, but her real name was Eleanora Fagan Gough. She got her nickname, "Lady Day" from Lester "Prez" Young. Billie was one of the most revered singers of the century. In 1939 she recorded her song "Strange Fruit", a song about African American lynchings, and her song "God Bless the Child". In 1944 Billie joined Decca Records. Billie's song "Lover Man (Oh Where Can You Be?)" got #5 on Billboard's R&B chart. Billie became addicted to heroin and died from it.
